just a thought ...what if clubs took 1 area of the pines"adopted it" and kept it clean...bridges painted etc..?
1. it makes the clubs look responsible and is good for the image of the sports enthusiasts involved be they 4 wheelers or kayakers
2. it helps keep the forest clean year 'round
seems like a "win win"

Do the destructive elements have any respect for the clubs?
I think it's a good idea, but it will be very short term if a club goes to "their" area and finds it destroyed.
Been there, done that.

I think that's an excellent idea, and we had actually discussed similar approaches to certain problem areas.

I'm sure that will happen from time to time, but the overall effect of a coordinated and sustained approach would win out in the balance, in my opinion.

I have a seasonal campsite at Wading Pines campground. I will be there from march 2011 to nov 2011. My machine shop is in Tabernacle. So I will be traveling hawkins bridge trail all the way to carranza twice a day. I will be able to do cleanup from carranza road all the way to the campground almost everyday including carranza memorial.

I don't know how the state would deal with signs in the woods..nor how long they would last up from vandalls.. BUT.. a list on the Ranger Station [batsto and Atsion etc] wall with some pics of clubs cleaning up their adopted area might be a go and be great..and clubs could decide if they want to make public what area they clean or just say they are part of the "ADOPT A TRAIL" network

As I have stated before. I'm not a big "club guy". However I have already taken the Atco Powerlines, Tremont and burntmill road on my own. It may not be official but I have been making big progress. I'm more than willing to have 1 or two people help me here and there but I don't like many more people than that.

Overall I like the idea as long as it doesn't get too political. It doesn't just have to be jeep clubs either. Hiking clubs/ geocaching etc.

"It doesn't just have to be jeep clubs either."
That's what's been bugging me.
This group is jeep/4x4-heavy, and it seems that to some, the rest of us are just tolerated here as guests. If this group intends to present itself as a true coalition, that attitude has to disappear.

The Jeep people are the ones who started this whole coalition, they were the first to jump in. In a short period of time, we got a nice variety of members to this forum and the coalition is growing by leaps and bounds. Out of the first membership applications I got, there was a variety of interests represented. This group is always going to be "4x4 heavy" because most of us on here have 4wd vehicles/Jeeps, myself included. It is the main form of travel out in the pines. I am thankful to the Jeep clubs for steeping up to the plate and believe they are a valuable asset to this group. I am curious though, about what you mean by attitude. And what you mean by the statement that you feel like you are tolerated as a guest?

If this group intends to present itself as a true coalition, that attitude has to disappear. I'm sorry that you feel that way. I think Gipsie summed it up pretty well. Since I've been running around in 4x4s for my whole life and I travel the country just for 4x4s, I tend to speak of it quite a bit. I have alot of other hobbies I participate in within the pines as well, but it is now going into the off season. If I was into hunting I'd be speaking of that this week for sure. Theres 3 main reasons I'm here A) Lesson the damage of sensitive areas (mostly caused by 4x4s) B) Keep the forest clean and from looking like Camden C) Fight for the right to still allow motorized vehicle access within the Pines. Please feel free to speak up. If you see a troubled area or have an issue, post it up. Lets see what we can do as a group to solve it. I'm sure all the 4x4 enthusiasts would love to work with you, I hope you'd like to continue to work with us. Keep in mind if it wasn't for this group the situation out there would only get worse. Please try to keep an open mind and lets work together ;D

I feel that it is difficult to judge the feelings of a person/group based solely on written word on a forum. This is why the open monthly meetings are important. Face to face interaction is a good way to judge sincerity. I have seen gipsie, mudboy and russ reaching out and inviting others to join and I know that others on here are working hard to include everyone.
