Just a few thoughts I had , since these are the 2 main problem areas and I know we talked about picking one to start with , I honestly think 1/4 mile should be dealt with first , it's way more travel upon and well known then jemima and once Warmer weather starts to hit everyone will be heading there while it's still overly flooded from the winter months , but where do we begin ? Because honestly some signs and some caution tape aren't going to be enough to keep people out of there
And as for jemima would it be a good idea or even allowed if there was a small "fence" put up around atleast the bottom side for now kinda like the small wood fence around apple pie hill ? Atleast people will see an effort being made and might think twice , kind of give off that feeling like there being watched . And in that sense it won't be an eyesore for people going back there to enjoy the scenery
As for funding maybe we could do some sort of a car show and bikini car wash or something to raise up money to put back into the community , and then also look for sponsors to help contribute , the main thing with a sponsor is that we will probly space on the website for a banner and also other means of promoting there business .

My question is this.
If fences or barrier where put up, how long do you think it would be until they were detroyed. Which then we could easily replace them, but that will end up being alot of money (I don't think anyone minds the work), money that we would then need to find a way to raise.
Or worse, how long until people start blacing new trails around these obsticles, creating more destruction.
I think these issues need to be considered before any action is taken.

Yea that's all on my mind too it's a vicious circle we need to find a way around , the only real way is to give it a shot and see what happens , but once this is done it would be a good idea for rangers to check on the areas once And a while and catch these vandals , once word is out that there not playing around then something might start to change , but until some examples are Made I don't see any destruction stopping to soon

What about not just putting up a barracked or a fence? How about raising money to build and upkeep the fence, and see if we can get approval to relocate a few juvenile pines and replant them behind the fence. I think that people may be less likely to cut down / run over a 6’ tree and a few shrubs to get to ¼ mile. Maybe even set up a camera, maybe get some pictures if someone destroys it, might get lucky and get a plate.

I had mentioned something at the last meeting if we would be allowed to even plant some trees back there ? I don't see it being an issue but it would be a great Idea especially at jemima mt

Maybe the project committee should write up a couple of different proposals to deal with these two sites. We could present the alternatives to Rob, and see which one he wants to try.

I think anything you do to block an area WILL NOT WORK! There will always be people ignorant enough to rip out blockades, run over trees and blaze a new trail around. We especially don't want people to blaze new trails because that defeats the whole purpose. Remember the people that think who the hell are we to try to keep them out of there. When all this started you would see post on some blog's saying stuff like, I'm going out tonight and tear that shit up! The best thing we could do is educate the uneducated and prosecute the ignorant! If there were no motor vehicle signs at least they couldn't say they didn't know any better!

I hear you hamilton, but if enough people are monitoring the site, and coordinating with state park people and state park police, then eventually we would see who may be violating the official "No Motorized Vehicles" signs, and we may even catch perpetrators in the act. Remember, we all have cell phones and cameras.

yea the main thing now is to do what we can and hopefully catch some people in the act and once the word gets spread that the situation is serious and actions are being taken maybe not so many people will want to chance it in those areas

We have to at least get some signage out there.
When I first went there years ago, there were signs and I backed off. If I hadn't seen the signs, I may have followed in the footsteps (ruts) and done the same.
It may not stop all traffic, but I didn't go. If I go to another spot and there are no signs but a route, I have no reason to think its not ok.

When I first visited Jamima there was 1 trail up the hill with no ruts. Then a year or so later the trail was one big rut. Now I hear there are 3 trails going up it. Signage should be the first thing we should work on. Like I said if theres a sign then they have no excuse! Coordinate with Rob to find out where signs belong and repair or replace them. Then find out where he wants more and install them for him.

there is 3 lines up the front , one up the side and then a gradual one that wraps up on the oposite side , it doesnt help that half the jeep clubs in the area all bring there club runs back there and tear it up , i know alot of people say that majority of the destruction isnt clubs but in this case it is , not your everyday person knows about it or even knows how to get back there , its not right out in the open its pretty hidden , so spread the word to some of the clubs in the area and start there

im not really sure if that was supposed to be a "smart ass" reply cause the vids you posted werent clubs , im not saying clubs are the only ones who go back there , i dont know why people think just cause people are in a legit club they dont do no harm , but i do know alot clubs or meet up's off of forums take alot of the members back there , spreading word to the clubs who arent associated with njtlc would be a good place to start and then they can spread the word to there members

All the legitimate clubs have been notified. Unfortunately some choose not to care. The biggest problem is the forums that organize trail rides. We have posted warnings on most of them without much success. Being the President of a Jeep club and co-founder of the njtlc with the 2 other major clubs in the area I do take offense when someone starts knocking us! Without the Jeep clubs there would be no njtlc!
