I'm in my 50's, and I grew up thinking of Batsto as my backyard. We poled leaky sneakboxes on the creeks, paddled leaky canoes on the lakes, and floated leaky rafts down the rivers.
My mother remarried when I was in high school, and we moved to East Philly, which was a complete culture shock, being very much like North Jersey but with a different accent.
Then I moved back to the Pine Barrens. (I live in a town, not in the woods.) I found a lot had changed. Where we used to walk on the rails so we'd feel a train coming, now there are trees growing between the ties. Some of the track aren't even there anymore. There are paths where there never were before, and trails I remember are overgrown, or bridges are gone.
And - people! All over the place! Where in the 60's there was solitude there are now people, or their tracks.
I don't know if this group can accomplish anything. Gipsie's bylaws make me think that maybe it can develop as a resource.
I don't own a 4-wheel drive vehicle. I have nothing good to say about how the roads have been torn up and intersections destroyed by destructive hobbyists who've made it impossible for me to drive into the woods.
If there is a way to keep the bully drivers from making my forest inaccessible to me, I'm all for it.
I know gipsie, Tneigle, and Muck from geocaching.

Welcome. I definately have my hobby but don't believe have contributed to making access more difficult for anyone. As a group that is one thing we are looking to tackle among many other situations that occur back there. I have a geocache located out there named "gilligans island"

Hey Nan and welcome! Glad you could make it!
The bylaws are not my bylaws or even our bylaws. It is just something we were working on, a work in progress so to speak.
Keep your eyes open for the meetings, hope to see you at one or two!

Hi Nan. Those 'references' aren't helping you! I liked your intro and good to hear your views. Didn't know you were a true piney.

Welcome baybury, I am in your age group and did alot of the same things you did except I did it in North Jersey which is where I still am... I do own a 4 wheel drive and like the rest of the 4 wheel drive/ dirt bkie/ATV folks on here we to have nothing good to say about how the roads have been torn up and intersections destroyed by destructive hobbyists who've made it impossible for me to drive into the woods. Understand that most of those that destroy are not really hobbyist that we would associated with.We as responsible OHV users are the silent majority that get a bad name from the minority that dont use the brains they were born with.
