Yesterday while speaking to Russ I happened to mention that I'm not all that familiar with the plantlife of the Pines. I know Oak trees, Pine trees blueberries and cranberries but to my untrained eyes everything else looks like weeds. When I saw a picture of the extremely threatened "Pine Barrens Smoke Grass" I couldn't tell the difference be6tween it and just some regular ole grass on the side of the road. I believe if part of my "job" wiull be to protect this kind of stuff I should at least be familiar with the threatened species. I asked Russ for the favor of going out to some areas so he can show me these things and I can get familkiar with it. Not sure what yall think , but I believ it would be a good idea for all of us to famiarize ourselves with this and spread it to our freinds and clubs. Now here comes the fun part....picking a date. I'm thinking maybe 2 weekends after the cleanup. (weekend after is Halloween and I have kids). Only other day I may be able to do this before hand is this coming Monday. It's Columbus day and I'm off of work.

Part II: How to educate our clubs so they don't run this stuff over.
I'm thinking if we were to at one of Clubs present a slide show (Russ has one) of the plantlife that is endangered maybe we could have a contest. Contest would be like this, For 30 days after the presentation, members would have to come up with photos of each species. with them next to the plant, proving that they found it. Whoever discovers the most endangered plants in the Pines would win maybe a Gift certificate to one of ourt sponsors. I think this would make the education a fun expeirience with a prize at the end. Once again let me know if yall like it. If multiple members were to get photos of all of the plants within that time , prize would go to the first person to turn them in.

I think some type of slide show on the different species would be a great idea and I'm sure I can get a few from our club to participate in a little friendly compitition
