Met a guy at work from Britain who never heard of the pines and got him started at Atsion. He did the 5 hike mile loop down the yellow trail to Beaver Pond and back (looking for wildlife to photograph).
When I asked how it went, he said he noticed a lot of trash and beer bottles. He mentioned the roads are rough, but I discounted that part because he was new to sand roads and the woods.
Just interesting to hear the first comment was about garbage. I asked if there were some big piles or something to find out where it may be, but he just said random trash and beer containers.
Sort of set me back for a bit. I know in someother places of the world respect for surroundings is high, and littering is just a discrace. I guess more education is needed on all fronts.

after re-asking:
"The cans were on the main sand road and strewn plastic on the yellow trail. "
We know its all over though, from the roads, to trails, to dump spots. I'll just have to work harder to take a trash bag everytime I go, and talk about it on my hike trips more.
Do the parks have those trash bags on the pole anymore?

I'll just have to work harder to take a trash bag everytime I go, and talk about it on my hike trips more. few years back when SJER did its annual "adopt a highway" clean up (We did from Atsion Rd to Chew RD on 206, when the state allowed us to) I arranged for the cub scout pack that my son was a member of to do a clean up of the Wharton Ranger Station area and Quaker Bridge Rd all the way to the train tracks, we did it the same day so we had access to the trash bags NJDOT gave us at SJER and NJDOT also retrieved the bags the next day, all we had to do was keep them in site of the roadway. That day we (the scouts and us parents) collected 12 large trash bags of trash, plus the trash SJER pulled off the side of 206. Alway a mess there. Some is things blowing in there from 206 too. Do the parks have those trash bags on the pole anymore? There was none at the trailhead of the Red trail in BBSF nor a dispenser for them when I was there a couple weeks back working the Dual sport ride. We were there for 4 hours, we sat there to ensure no one removed the ribbon along the road or anyone left the trail there. I and my son went to wawa to get some food and drink and I got a few bags there to clean up the HC accessible area where we were parked, there was trash everywhere.

Saturday I was at the Racoacas Canoe Trail near Burl Co College. While the "Carry In Carry Out" post was still there, it seems that someone stocks it with their plastic grocery bags. The tube was stuffed full of various bags from various merchants. Great Idea!
