It would be great if we could get a good group of people to this meeting this Friday. We are supposed to have the state park police, the superintendent of WSF, and leaders of local recreation groups. This is our opportunity to start working together on a regular basis. Friday, Oct. 1, 2:00, Batsto Visitor Center. Who's coming?

I think we had a reasonably good meeting last Friday, though there is a still a lot that needs to be ironed out. Bottom line is that we can establish a volunteer group for WSF, but the emphasis needs to be on volunteer projects, such as maintaining signs and litter cleanup. Everyone would need to agree to the policy of NOT APPROACHING any violators. You can collect and report information on violations and violators, but you can't confront them in any way. The big question is, do we want to establish a new organization, or shall we get this started through one that already exists?

What organizations exist that do this type of thing?

Rob Aurmueller told me about a list of organizations that are associated with the state forest(s), but on the web site I see only the Batsto Citizens Committee and the Batona Hiking Club. He said there was group of people like us who were trying to get organized a while back, but it never came together.
I think we should just start the club, establish the club as a volunteer org for WSF, and start doing what we need to do.
One big thing to consider: Do we want to keep the club limited to WSF? At the meeting the other day, several people were recommending that it should focus on all the state forests or at least all the s. Jersey ones.

I think we should start with Wharton and address issues in all of S. Jersey as they come along! At this present time our big problem is the Scar and the illegal use of Wharton!

I like the idea of an organization rather than a club, a club seams almost too "social".
I say lets lay out some guidelines and get the ball rolling.
