What if we just say "Motorcycle Riding"? That would cover any and all kinds of legal recreation on motorcycles, just like "4WD Motoring" covers all categories of legal recreation in 4WD vehicles.
We can brainstorm on all this stuff. The categories in the bylaws are always open to debate and revision.

How about "2-wheelers"?

I personally feel 'motorcycle' is fine... but there are those that feel that terminology will eventually create a HUGE problem with the state and we'll be forced to ride Harley Davidsons with knobby tires - since that is a motorcycle in Trenton.
I'm sorry for the confusion - but the nomenclature end of what we do has been beaten to death legally and our community has had immense pressure on the topic of what a 'motorcycle' legally is. Some have TENS of THOUSANDS invested in once legal machines they can't use until the state gets it's act together. The whole OHV park law has left things in limbo for the next three years. This isn't whiney stuff about pride... this is about a multi-million dollar issue that has been debated in the state capitol several times.
Bayberry - I would be perfectly fine with two wheelers if it mentioned 'motorized' and there was a mountain bike rep to okay it... which there isn't.
This is a hot button issue - I just got a letter from the state today... things are not any less complicated. We'll try to have it more sorted out by next month.

And as Greg stated, this is a hot topic on all levels, and I am not referring to this group or board.
My son wrote a letter to New DEP Comm. (he is 10) in regards to opportunities, or should I say lack of opportunities for children to ride and his desire to be able to legally enjoy the sport of off highway dirt bike riding with me. Of course some bias minion who intercepts letters and response to such replied. I would believe no one saw this hand written letter from the heart of a 10 y.o. but him (I hand no hand in the writing accept clarifying some questions he asked of me). The reply sited MVC code and DEP directives along with web links to such for a 5th grader to read. He is now working on a new letter to Comm. Bradley also being sent to Gov. Christi and all of our legislative representatives on the State and County level, which will include His original letter and the response from the pencil pusher in Trenton voicing his displeasure and re-expressing his original intent.
I once tried to post these letters here, but the attachment was to small to read.

As for "Who's here?" from the community, I am! As for the pencil-pushers who pass out form letters with their opinions on them, that's not their job to give their opinion. It's their job to take in consideration any letters from concerned constituents and forward this to the Represenative they are representing.

to clarify the issue: iwhile they seem similar - the two groups often operate completely independent of each other. if that is not possible - the group name needs to AT LEAST represent the interests of both groups (which are QUITE different). Yep, couldn't agree more. Thanks for making this distinction. I think the enduro community has been more invested in offroad motorcycle riding in NJ.....who do you think puts on all the Dual Sport events...enduro clubs. A "Motorcycle" header would suit the forum and cover the bases.

Now the Dual Sport Section... the push has started to alienate the enduro riders... Sorry if thats how it sounded to you. Myself and a few other riders were under the impression that there was two motorcycle categorys and it was memtioned to call one group dual sport and the other enduros, but it seems it was lost in the translatation. Hopefully we can get two "seats" for the different styles of riding. Jack
