We will be recognizing our first annual Volunteer of the Year at the February meeting. The criteria for this recognition is somewhat flexible but in general, the purpose is to identify and celebrate an individual who has given a great deal of their time and effort for the good of the forests of New Jersey.
Being the first year of the award, we identified an honoree with a long history of dedication to the forest. We are happy to name Mike Tarsia, founder and organizer of the annual "Pine Barrens Cleanup", as our Volunteer of the Year for 2011. This past fall was the tenth time that Mike was able to pull groups from all over the area into the forest for his event and along with a mountain of garbage being pulled out of the forest, the event's participants provided over 400 toys for needy area families at Christmas time!
Thank you, Mike and congratulations!
