In the wake of all that has transpired in recent days, I thought I would throw out an idea I've been kicking around for a while which does not pertain to closing anything! ;D How hard would it be for the group to assist or totally repair the exposed pipe bridge on Batsto - Fireline Rd? It has been exposed a few times now and has taken a beating. I'm not sure who to contact on this matter, so I'm just asking a question of the group at this point.

Lets fix it. Next meeting bring it up and get a group together to go out there and repair it. Do you think we can fix it without machinery?

It looks do-able without a backhoe or bobcat. however I think the problem is the washout when we have a few days of heavy rain. I'm not an expert on drainage by any means so if there is anyone out there that does roadwork for a living it may be a benefit to have them take a ride out there and look at it and give an opinion.

The problem (obviously) is that the pipe is overcome during heavy rain events. The real fix would be to install a headwall with wingwalls at the upstream end of the pipe. Thsi would be a rather expensive undertaking requiring purchase of precast, excavation, etc. The "easy" alternative would be to sandbag/concrete back the upstream end, in the shape of a wingwall. (still labor intensive & somewhat expensive)

Don't forget about the wetlands delineation, Soil erosion and sediment controls measures and a whole bunch of red tape.
As easly as it would really be to rip out the old pipe, put down a couple of feet of sub base, install a new reinforced concrete pipe and grade the road back to useable condition, the required engineering plans, applications and permits would be a major stumbling block.
