I think we should have a get together where everyone can talk without an agenda. Several groups brainstorming and sharing ideas and thoughts. This kind of got lost in the shuffle, but it's a good idea too. This is a crazy time of year for most folks and it may be tough to arrange but at the very least we should try to get a few dates thrown out for consideration.

During the discussion at the June meeting of what our next steps should be regarding 1/4 Mile it became clear that having more information available to casual forest users would be a very good thing. It gave me an interesting idea and wanted to get some input from everyone.
What if we installed and maintained a bulletin board at/near/around (whatever...) the ranger station at Quaker Bridge Rd. or at Atsion Lake? It could be wherever Rob A. is comfortable with us putting it but ideally it would be obvious and accessible to groups meeting there to go out into WSF. We could post our literature, Tread Lightly stuff, have information for different user groups... I'm sure it would be a target for vandalism, everything is, but I could run down there on Monday mornings and restock and repair. I think it might be a good way to start the educational outreach. We could also post our position regarding 1/4 Mile so that the law-abiding folks could see that they shouldn't be there and why.
Now, let's not turn this thread into a discussion of 1/4 Mile. I intend to post a "sticky" on that topic. We've heard enough bile and ranting. If you have something to say on that matter, please come to a meeting. All are welcome.
What I do want is a discussion about the bulletin board idea:
What might the SF folks be concerned with? How can we construct it as to minimize vandalism damage? Has anyone seen innovative ideas for trailhead kiosks?

Getting the information together is a good step. It can be something we make and obtain from other sources.
-Are there other flyers or info already out there in print that can be used? Can we obtain it?
-Start with some basic cheap half sheet flyers copied on color paper. Not filled so much with info about NJTLC, but info about tread lightly usage.
What about getting permission to put the flyers in their existing cubby holes in their board? or even attach a small box to their existing pole.

Maybe they will let you set up a board with all the material posted behind plexi glass. Somewhere near their display or put some material in the ranger station and maybe at Batsto also.

what about an information board out in the sensitive areas , as to what plants and such live in the in area , so many other places ive been ive seen displays out on the trails showing the plants , wild life and such that pertain to that certain area , when people are out in areas and see signs like that it really makes people think twice about going and destroying areas , it seems to work well in other places ive been ,that along with no motor vehicles signs i think will get a good point across and be educational on a few differant levels , its just a thought , because when i see them on other parks it makes me not even want to walk off the main trails

But if that's not practical my opinion would be that the info that's posted at the Ranger Station on 206 would need to be posted not in the gravel parking area near the current board but out in the field near the big cedar tree. In my experience that's where most people meet up.

Nice idea about having signs in the forest. There are historical markers for locations of inns and towns throughout the State forest but markers for natural points of interest are an interesting idea. I believe you're right about making people think twice as well.
