Hi, Some of this has been touched on, and it may be something we have something to do with, so maybe we can first define the area first for all.
Not so much as who does what, but more the location and condition.
Can you help describe this area, location-boundaries-GDS coords-maplinks, current use, condition of access, location of damaged areas? (on map or coords)?

As far as exact borders, that is something the forest and rangers will have to determine, if they haven't already yet.

As long as he's willing to work with us(which he states he's looking forward to). However it sounds like he a little biased on just about everything. What is his value?

Good article and videos little one, but this guy has got some real anger issues. A lot of what he is concerned about are things we should all take a hard look at, such as 4x4s going off road and destroying the habitat. On the other hand he appears to be one of those "ban them all" types and that is a whole other issue. As and example of his "treehugger" type reporting the second video shows 4x4s attempting to make it through a puddle in the existing road, now I'm am quite sure that these "hillbillies" did not go out, dig a hole 15 ft. long and 2 1/2 ft. deep and sit around playing their banjos waiting for it to rain enough flood this road. This type of halfa** reporting is counter productive and if he does meet with NJTL and work to keep the forest healthy for future generations you may wish to keep the leash on for a bit until his values are more clear. Some peeps mean well but can be harmful to both sides.
One thing about an activist like him, he won't go away and that may be a good thing. WARNING I have seen this happen in W.V. (real hillbillies) If you enjoy driving your 4x4 off the pavement have fun, enjoy the ride, be respectful to mother nature and if you see a distributive 4x4 report it, it's not being a snitch if you are protecting YOUR future off roading, you can be found guilty on a crime you did not do. Just a thought for happy 4x4s ;D

sentinel, It sounds like we both agree for the most part. He has to do away with the childish name calling and also downing of every activity there is. I myself do have a guess to what road that is that they were on. If I'm guessing correctly it is off limits. The way they were hitting the puddle at high sopeed definately shows their inexperience or just not caring about if they kill their vehicles, but at the same time it isn't like they were in 2 wheel drive tearing the puddles up. I'm not sure if they could have got away with straddling the ruts without placing their tires on top of vegatation or not. If they could have got away with straddling the ruts, then yes they are breaking a law by worsening road conditons. Either way though. I see no productive means of writing an article such as he did.

The questions would be, is he someone we would want on our side? Does he have a following? I sent him an email, inviting him to check out the site and forum. His response... Good morning Maureen,
I hope this letter finds you well, and that you're enjoying the holidays.
Regarding your inclusion of my little rant on the NJTLC site: I'm flattered, but I feel that I should point out that I do use some rather incendiary rhetoric in that post, which may ruffle some feathers on your forums. I don't know where NJTLC comes down on the matter of the recent abuses, but I feel that the conscientious thing to do is to give you fair warning that this will provoke some rancor on both sides of the issue.
I wish your website good luck. Have a happy Christmas!

Hi, I am reading all the info (will see videos from home).
It's good to fully define the basics of a specific issue or area, to move to the next step in the awareness, and maybe some change process from all sides.
This area seems generally S-SW from High Crossing, between High Crossing Rd, and Mines Sprung rd. Just east of the Batsto River north branch.??
How many of the worst spots within can we define within this area (1/4 mile). I can see several from the maps. Could we define the top 5 or so.. specific spots? Coordinates too.
Is this one of the key area in the Pines?
I'd like to make a portfolio of the area with photo sets of the worst spots and the good areas, with a bit more descriptive photos or videos. A little more defined work of a 'specific area' not intermixed with info from other areas. A non-confrontational overview.
Can we drive to the areas, or hike to the spots say from High Crossing, or Hampton Furnace area?
Change takes understanding all sides and more info. Maybe some compromises are to understand all points of view, and maybe a compromise to let specific areas regenerate.

I'm not sure. The questions would be, is he someone we would want on our side? Does he have a following? I sent him an email, inviting him to check out the site and forum. His response... [/blockquote][/quote] I actually think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring him aboard. He is passionate about Wharton. However, he does seem to be on the extremest side. But this is set up to be a coalition, which means that people from all points of view should be welcome to voice their opinion. As long as he understands that everyone here is here for the betterment of the Pines, and he can keep all personal attacks out of his debates, and he is willing to come to a compromise then isn't that the point of this Coalition. But one thing to think about. If he joins us, then his articles will represent us...If he can't keep name calling and personal attacks out of his articles, what course of action will the founding members do? As for the video he added. There is plenty of video's out there of idiots doing clearly illegal activities. Showing a video of someone driving through a puddle in the trail, and labeling it as an example of illegal wheeling, will cause issues. The 4X4 community will have a potential to see that, notice that it is something that they they are leagally allowed to do, and dismiss the whole article and possibly the important information inside. The environmentalist will take it as an example of what not to do, and look down on anyone driving through puddles. This will lead to a bigger rift between the two groups, one that we are trying to bridge. Even if this video was taken in an area that is off-limits, this is not obvious to the viewers. WOW, I am sorry. That was alot longer than I had originally intended.

I know him and tried to call him today but got no answer. I'll call again after Christmas and explain the coalition to him.
