I was looking through the various threads and categories here on the forum and had a disappointing realization. If a thread has the word "negative" or some reference to controversy in the title it gets hundreds of views. The threads requesting help or offering information about events or meeting information and club business rarely get 40 views. It seems like the community is drawn toward places where folks are ranting or stirring up dirt or complaining... It's kind of a shame, really. I feel this way because there's a lot of good things to talk about going on in the woods. Sure, there's issues everywhere and we all need to keep working to keep the relationships with the authorities positive and the trails open and make sure that those of us in the forest are doing are part to help keep the woods clean and thriving; I don't have my head in the sand. I just want to take a moment to recognize a few of the good things.
This month will see two historic events in the Pinelands. On March 25th, South Jersey Enduro Riders will host the 45th Curly Fern Enduro. That's quite a feat and makes the Curly Fern one of the oldest events of it's kind in the country, which makes the following even more amazing... On March 18th, Meteor Motorcycle Club is hosting the 75th Sandy Lane Enduro! That goes back all the way to 1934! So, congratulations to both organizations for reaching these milestones and best of luck to you for successful and safe events.
For those of you out to find something to gripe about or looking for some controversy to read about, sorry... I just wanted to point out that there are a lot of people out there, working very hard at doing the right thing and show that they've been doing it that way for a very long time! As you peruse the various threads, maybe check out a few that don't mention problems in their title.
