Just so folks who didn't read their plan. It is (was): ......................................... Heres the run down on the expedition. We will be leaving the Ranger Station at 4-4:15pm and make our way into Wharton State Forest. We will follow the trails until we reach 1/4 mile. Depending on if 1/4 is closed off or not, we will make our way through the area, treading lightly. After reaching the end of 1/4 mile, we will follow the trails down to Jemima Hill where we will test the capabilities of our rigs and be claimed King of the Hill! Once we are done playing on Jemima Hill, we will start to head to our campground. Hopefully things will run smoothly and we can reach our campground while there is still light left in the sky. Our campgrounds will be held at Bodine Field.
-----------------------------
Now they are all likely good folks, and it sounds like a modest trip(you can see that by the treading lightly statement). And it is the woods afterall, and one of the few places in this metro area where a wheeler can go. And free too. And who knows that an area maybe be off limits for awhile because the signage is gone.
But today, everybody gets "back there" from horse riders, to bikers, to hikers, and boaters. --Everything is visible now - meaning all the traces. The discussions are getting more sensitive, some places may need a break, and maybe the damage to some areas too much?
So the issues (for 'NJTLC' and 'everybody else') are: - With all the people and all the usage, is the pines able to take it? - With all the visibility, does more have to change, before the 'unwanted change' happens.

on another note , i hiked from high crossing to 1/4 mile yesterday and it seemed really decent back there , i saw one set of off road tire tracks actually in 1/4 mile, a few sets of stock tire tracks that stopped before the mud , but multiple sets of dirtbike/enduro tracks all through the place , nothing to fresh at the fire pit party spot either , so over all i think most people are learning to stay of that area

Since most people are concerned with the closing of the 1/4 mile, is there any information posted at the Atsion office about the recent changes? If people are starting their trips from this area this may be a good spot to put up some info. Not sure if there is any there or not.

As of last year no information was available at either the Batsto or Atsion stations regarding closed areas in map format. I will check and see if any information is currently available at the Atsion station. It is my belief that if information was provided that the majority of the public would obey. It seems like the closed areas are kept secret so no one will find them. IMO this just leads people to go looking for them and does not help the cause at all.

Just figured I would follow up just in case anyone was interested. 1/4 Mile and Jemima were avoided by the entire group. I was unable to get any sort of "map" showing closed areas at the ranger station. Once again I have to think if the closed areas were brought to the public's attention before they plan their trip or route more carnage would be avoided. Personally I had no clue Jemima was a "grey" area and was to be avoided until joining here.

This is a valid point, Oswego, and one we have discussed. The main concern is that almost any attention or special marking for a specific area creates a "target" in the minds of some folks. It's hard for the responsibly-minded among us to fathom that kind of thinking but the fear is that the kind of map you're describing could be used for less-than honorable intentions.
Since we're not in the map making business anyway, the NJTLC's plan is to simply work with the groups we represent and try to get the word out about what is and what is not acceptable. This case shows exactly how this can work to the best effect. Members of this group reached out to the FJ gang and they changed their plans accordingly; no involvement of the authorities, no signage, no controversy. Just a suggestion to some responsible folks with the appropriate results.
Thanks to everyone here for reaching out and thanks to the FJ group for understanding and "doing the right thing". As Hamilton LJ said, "We don't want to alienate anyone". To my mind, this is exactly what we're trying to accomplish.
