While access is the key to all the activity sections, this section should take a look at what's key for hiking, backpacking, and camping.
Parking and access to hiking areas is important because how can you do any of this without a starting point or place to leave your car.
- Respecting and helping to clean and maintain an activity starting point is important. Picking up just a bit of litter before any trip really goes a long way and gives a message that people care about the location, and thus the trails. The owners and others will get the same feeling as well and be more receptive to allowing access. Bring a trash bag and some gloves in your vehicle and pick up some trash on every trip. People will notice.
Trail maintenance is a big thing as well.
- If you see any problems on the Batona trail, you can contact the OCSJ or Batona Trail club of Philly. Both help to maintain, clean, trip, and mark that trail. You can also help by participating in their trim and clean up events.
- If there are branches and trees down across a trail, take a minute to toss them aside.
- Any trash pickup is a big big plus.
I thought it was a big big loss when they closed down the Bryne Camping areas. I used them a lot during the year myself and for OCSJ campovers (by different leaders). I have heard they may reopen the area after memorial day. I'm just hoping and hoping it stays open. I really don't know what we can do to help them stay open. Parvin State park has its own support organization and volunteers help to clear debris and trees so they can open the camping and cabin areas. I'd join in on that to help keep Bryne open to camping.
