Hello, I am glad we have new sections added which helps keep the purpose of the org well rounded.
I would like to define this section more and determine interest and possible related 'activities,' and would like feedback on the following:
Who has interest in participating in the foot traffic side of the house?
What is your area of interest: Hiking, Camping, Backpacking
Would you be interested in hikes to explore and learn areas, where you may not have 4-wheel capabilities, or restricted vehicle access?
What is a comfortable hiking range you may be interested in: 1-3 miles, 4-6 miles, more?
Are you interested in Camping weekends?
Are you interested in Backpacking trips?
What would you like to see come from this section?
thanks, Tneigel

Hey everyone... When I'm not riding Enduro I enjoy hiking and camping.
I've hiked the Batona trail, a few High Peaks in the Adirondacks, Mount Washington, and sections of the Appalachian Trail to name a few. Heading to California this summer to hike Big Sur and possibly Half Dome.
I've backpacked through Germany/Switzerland/Austria and camped by motorcycle through most of the the US and Canada including Newfoundland/Nova Scotia/PEI.
I don't mind camping by pack - but I prefer to day trip whenever possible, pack light and travel fast. Just started hammock camping recently which seems to be the best of both worlds so that may open up new avenues for me!

I used to lead backpacking trips on the Batona trail. We used to do it as a three-day trip, and it worked out pretty well that way.
Right now, NJCF, the Outdoor Club of South Jersey, and the Batona Hiking Club are looking at possible ways to re-route a section of the Batona Trail. You know, that section between Wharton SF and Brendan T. Byrne where you have to walk along a paved road and behind peoples' backyards, where the dogs bark at you. Most of the new option will be within the Franklin Parker Preserve.
Also, I have just about completed blazing of about 20 miles of trails at the Parker Preserve. The Red Trail is footpath only. It's about six miles. Try it out, and let me know what you think.

Where is the trailhead for these new trails? No maps on the NJCF website yet.

I'd like to learn to blaze a trail and create a trailhead. Do you think NJTLC could sponsor a class similar to the ones that NYNJ Trail Conference has. I'll be taking a class on invasive species this month up north with them. What I'd like see us do is get certified on various topics and then be able to educate the membership. One thing they do is to certify people for chainsaw safety and only those people can go into the areas after storms to clear the trails. Any thoughts?

Tom et.al..... I have been going out after work for short hikes of 2-4 miles about 3 times a week. I take my gps and track these hikes so that I have them cataloged and can pick and choose to keep my interest. Lately I've been spending more time behind the Pleasant Mills Church. Nice and quiet. Working on building up to a 4-6 mile speed. I have done a few runs at FPP. If anyone is headed that way for a hike, please post and I would love to join in. Early morning, later afternoon is good.....
Thanks, Terry

Hey good. I can get to either place about the same time from from work, 600-630.
I plan to kick in next week, likely more like the 3-4 mile pace to start.
Will let you know.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Would you like to lead the way?

Where is the trailhead for these new trails? No maps on the NJCF website yet. Again, sorry I lost track of this thread... There are four newly blazed trails at the Parker Preserve. Two begin at the "north gate," and two begin at the "south gate." The north gate is on the south side of 532, about .7 mi. west on 532 from the intersction of 532 and 563. From there you can take the red trail for a six-mile loop. This is for foot traffic only. You can also follow the green trail in a loop. It goes straight down the main road of the property, a short distance, to the air strip, then it diverges so that you can make the loop. This trail is open to hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. The south gate is on the west side of 563, about 2.8 mi. south on 563 from the intersection of 563 and 532. From there you can take either the white trail or the yellow trail in a loop. The white trail is open to hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. The yellow trail has a segment that runs along the Wading River that is restricted to hiking only. If you are bicycling or horseback riding, you would need to take a cut-off at those those points. There is still some fine tuning that needs to be done for the signage and blazing on all these trails, but if you print yourself a map from Google Earth that shows the area, you should have no problem following these trails. If you do, please let me know! NJCF will be making maps available soon, so keep checking the web site.

I was looking for good information on the re-route of the Batona, I heard a new section opened at the end of March between 532 and 563. I asked when I got my camping permit and they gave me a map of the Parker Trails however the Batona was not on it. When I got to 532 I looked for a re-route but just found the way I was Familiar with that took me down Whitehorse. Just wondering where I went wrong? The old blazes are still up and I did not see another way. Can you post a link or let me know where I can get some information on the new route?
Thank You!

Sorry I did not answer your posted questions, I like to Backpack and hike, normally with an overnight or two, I prefer camping where there is no vehicle access. I am excited with what the Parker Preserve has to offer,
